Trend Trail by Mix

Tent London invited experts Global Color Research™, the publishing house of Mix magazine and Mix Trends colour forecasting book, to curate an inspirational trend and colour installation throughout the halls of this years exhibition.

Over the years we have been seeing the colour green as a representation of the eco-trend and sustainability, however for future seasons the Interior Design industry is exploring this hue with a different attitude. As colour forecasters, we have seen how highlights of fresh spring-like hues from 2011 have developed into greyed off aquatic shades. 2014 sees multiple tones of green unite in one palette, giving the colour prominence and strengthening its usability.

For this purpose we have created the Trend Trail by Mix, a project which investigates the evolution of the colour green as interpreted by different designers and companies in four unique spaces around Tent London's venue.

Any visitor from any background will be able to enjoy each of these intallations, where they can take inspiration and use colour as the start point of any design project.

The Installation

Trend Space 1: Bleep 2012

Installation by Homebase in collaboration with Rafel Oliva
www.homebase.co.uk   www.rafeloliva.com

As one of four trends for Autumn Winter 2012/2013 forecasted by Global Color Research™ in Mix publications, 'Bleep' looks into retro technology with a twenty-first century twist. To bring this trend to life, Mix have brought together Homebase and designer Rafel Oliva using paint as a medium, visitors to the show are asked to particpate in live colour painting inspired by Bleep's mechanical nostalgia.

"Homebase is delighted to be a part of Bleep and feel the work of Rafel Oliva will really help bring the trends to life,"
Richard Johnson, Senior Paint Buyer, Homebase. www.homebase.co.uk

Trend Space 2: Precious 2012/13

Installation by Artwood
www.artwood-floors.com

'Precious', published in Mix Trends issue 24. for Spring Summer 2013, embarks on a love affair with semi-precious stones and the history of age-old natural resources which inspire new outcomes. Vibrant emerald and acidic green act as the key highlights to the story.

Based around a concept of the fabled Rasata Tree, Artwood's wooden surface installation is inspired by organic growth, celebrating the vivid mineral greens from the 'Precious' trend within their composition.

"The collaboration with Global Color Research™ for their Trend Trail by Mix concept presents a delightful opportunity to synergise art and design trends with nature; the creative philosophy behind Artwood."
Louay Azoo, Director, Artwood. www.artwood-floors.com

Trend Space 3: Alpine 2013

Installation by Cutting Technologies Ltd. in collaboration with Daniel Heath
www.cut-tec.co.uk   www.danielheath.co.uk

'Alpine' forms the down to earth trend for Autumn Winter 2013/2014, Mix Trends issue 25. A woodland palette inspires a natural aesthetic while a trio of greens bring a calming effect and are given a fresh identity with warming reds and yellows. Highlighting contemporary craft processes such as laser engraving, Trend Space 3 sees Cutting Technologies Ltd. and designer Daniel Heath explore the material element of 'Alpine' on interior hard surfaces.

"By working with Global Color Research™, we are gaining an invaluable insight into the design sector and new collaborative opportunities are emerging - a very exciting period for Cutting Technologies."
Jane Robinson, Business Development Director, Cutting Technologies Ltd. www.cut-tec.co.uk

Trend Space 4: Burst 2014

Installation by Pantone in collaboration with Harry Yeff
www.pantone.co.uk   www.reepsone.co.uk

Invigorating and optimistic, 'Burst' is a key trend from the latest issue of Mix Trends for Spring Summer 2014. Celebrating the diversity of greens, we see how the coming of spring inspires a feeling of vitality and wellbeing.

Having played a significant role in colour development and influencing graphic artists around the globe, Pantone has been paired with interactive artist Harry Yeff, who will showcase Pantone's approach to colour in a vibrant hand-drawn illustration created live during the exhibition.

"Launching this new alliance is very exciting for us, as it so clearly highlights the synergies between Global Color Research™ and Pantone, and our shared understanding of colour's ability to engage, influence and visually express how we feel."
Laurie Pressman, Vice President, Pantone Color Institute. www.pantone.co.uk
